LOS ANGELES – Manny Pacquiao will not get in trouble for saying he draws strength from God, and that he rebukes Timothy Bradley sealing their rematch for November.
Pacquiao treated the media to an open workout Wednesday at the Wild Card Gym, which was so packed portable ladders were a necessity for those who wanted to take shots. It was a typical media workout for Pacquiao gearing up for an upcoming fight.
He spent more than an hour granting interviews to mediamen who lined the ropes of the square ring. Often asked was the question whether he would go for a knockout against the undefeated Tim Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. “It’s God’s will,” said Pacquiao with a wink or a smile.
The Filipino icon, holder of the WBO welterweight crown, hasn’t knocked out any of his last four opponents, and against Bradley he’s expected to score one. Still, he won’t guarantee anything. “It’s God’s will,” he said once again even his fans are crying for a victory far more convincing than the one he scored against Juan Manuel Marquez last November.
He said he will try his best, and that he’s ready to fight. “I believe I have enough (strength). I have enough power because God gave it to me. All my strength is from God,” he told the press at the Wild Card Gym. He arrived at the gym right on time, at around 2:30 in the afternoon, on board his five-year-old Mercedes.
Later on he said he’s so focused for the coming fight, and it was clear that he had nothing else in his mind except Bradley. “I’m 100% focused for this fight and my training camp and, you know, no distractions. I’m so happy and excited and I can’t wait,” he said. “We will see. We will see.
God bless him,” he said of Bradley, who hosted his own media workout the other day, at the nearby Fortune Gym along Sunset Blvd. Bradley was full of confidence that he gave away posters and fight credentials to the Nov. 10 staging of Pacquiao vs Bradley, only this time stated as Bradley vs Pacquiao. The 28-year-old American, undefeated in 28 fights, is so sure of a victory that would call for a rematch. “I rebuke that in God’s name,” said Pacquiao of the “rematch.” Bob Arum, the chief promoter, took everything as it is. “That was cute,” he said of the “rematch” paraphernalia. “They got a lot of publicity,” Arum added.
