MANILA, Philippines —Larry Fonacier played a flirted with a perfect game and towed Talk N’ Text to a 109-89 triumph over Barako Bull to stay in contention Wednesday in the nightcap of the 2012 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Fonacier not only went 6-of-7 from the field and 5-of-5 from the stripe for 20 points, he also stirred a run in the pivotal third period with nine of his total output.

A former finals MVP Fonacier, who also had two rebounds, two assists, a steal with one turnover, buried back-to-back triples and gave The Texters a commanding 21-point edge in the fourth.

Import Paul Harris, who led the Texters to a Commissioner’s Cup title last season, finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Texters.

The powerhouse Talk N’ Text, grasping for form after gruelling runs to the finals in the past couple of years, has gained steam in this conference with a 3-3 slate after 0-2 start.

Barako Bull, meanwhile, slid by half a game after the loss as it was unable to capitalize after inching within four, 64-68, in the 4:25 mark of the third period.

Willer Miller had 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists while import Leroy Hickerson was edged in the head-to-head match up with Harris with 20 points and only four rebounds.

The Energy are now at 3-4.
