Why Toni Gonzaga spurned Luis Manzano

MANILA, Philippines -- Actor-host Luis Manzano seems to enjoy having "cross-network" relationships.

Way before his current relationship with GMA-7 actress Jennylyn Mercado, Manzano admitted that he had a crush on actress-host Toni Gonzaga back when she was still working on the noontime show of the rival network.

"Gumawa ako ng paraan na magtagpo ang aming landas considering na magkaibang channel pa kami noon. Sabi ko nga mga two to three years ng buhay ko ang ginugol ko sa kanya. Sabi ko nga kung di ko nakilala si Toni ay 28 pa din ako ngayon," Manzano said on their guesting on "Gandang Gabi Vice" on Sunday.

For her part, Gonzaga admitted that Manzano courted her for three years but explained that she sees him only as a friend.

"Kasi gusto ko talagang maging kaibigan si Luis. Nakita ko talaga siya as magiging mabait na kaibigan. Hindi ba usually kapag naging kayo tapos hindi na kayo eh nasisira yung relasyon? Eh kung hindi ko din binasted si Luis eh di sana hindi din sila ngayon ni Jennylyn," said Gonzaga, who has been steadily dating director Paul Soriano for five years.

Gonzaga and Manzano are currently promoting their latest film "This Guy's In Love With You Mare" with Vice Ganda, which opens on October 10.
