MANILA - Singer and former Camarines Sur Vice Governor Imelda Papin is seeking a reconsideration of her disqualification as congressional candidate for the legislative district of San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan.

Papin showed up at the Comelec today with lawyer Roque Bello to file her motion for reconsideration (MR) within the 5-day deadline provided by Comelec rules.

Bello said the Comelec’s 2nd division erred in its resolution cancelling the certificate of candidacy of Papin over questions on her residency.

Bello maintained that the petitioner’s lawyer was not authorized by his principal who is Papin’s rival in the race.

Bello maintained that Papin has been a resident within the required minimum period prescribed by law.

Bello said the residency requirement should be reckoned at 1 year before the election day.
Bello said the Comelec did not properly appreciate the documents they submitted to support their claim.

Papin maintained that San Jose del Monte City has been where she resided even during her incumbency as vice governor of Camarines Sur.

Papin said she has a building there, businesses and is a trustee of a local university. She also hosted a feeding program there.
