MANILA - Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III dismissed allegations of non-physical abuse of his estranged wife, former beauty queen Jewel Lobaton, saying the country should focus on bigger problems like typhoon Labuyo's impact.

In a text message, Pimentel said: “Huwag na natin patulan yan. Di naman yan national isyu at paulit-ulit nalang. Mag concentrate tayo dun sa mga na apektuhan ng bagyong Labuyo.”
He said he knows his rights, too. “Nabasa ko na ang batas. Alam ko rin ang mga karapatan ko.”

Lobaton on Monday accused Pimentel of psychological and emotional abuse.
She clarified, however, that Pimentel did not physically abuse her, contrary to rumors that circulated after they separated in 2011.

Lobaton is set to file a case against Pimentel for violating Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act.
Accompanied by lawyer Salvador Panelo, she also claimed Pimentel has been remiss in providing support for their children.

She clarified, however, that Pimentel did not physically abuse her, contrary to rumors that circulated after they separated in 2011.
She also expressed frustration over Pimentel’s failure to clear her name in the pork barrel scandal.

Whistleblower Benhur Luy alleged Lobaton approached them and asked for P10 million in exchange for helping them tap Pimentel’s Priority Development Assistance fund
