MANILA – Philippine culinary icon Nora Daza passed away on Friday, according to her granddaughter. She was 84.
In a post on the image-sharing website Instagram, model Isabelle Daza said: “To my Lola Nora, words can’t express how sad I am that you left us today. Thank you for being such a great and positive person who always brought a smile to my face. Thank you for sharing all your adventures with me, for being so generous and nurturing.”
“Thank you for teaching me how to cook and to speak French. For being there when I fought with my parents and taking my side. Thank you for making me feel loved. You were the best grandmother I could ever ask for. And I am so proud of you. If I could just have one more day to tell you [how] you’ve made a huge impact on my life. I love you so much,” she added.
In an interview with Yahoo! Philippines, Nora’s son, restaurateur and TV host Sandy Daza said the local culinary icon passed away in her sleep at 2:30 a.m. on Friday (September 13).
Nora is survived by Sandy, Appetite magazine editor-in-chief Nina Daza-Puyat, and Bong Daza, who is Isabelle’s father.
Several Filipinos took to social media sites such as Twitter to pay tribute to Nora and express their condolences to her family.
Nora has written a number of books such as “The Culinary Life” which she did with journalist Mickey Fenix, and “Galing-Galing” with her daughter, Nina.
Her very first recipe collection, “Let’s Cook with Nora,” remains a must-have in every Filipino home.
She also hosted a cooking show of the same title on ABS-CBN in the 1950s.
