BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – Most of the pieces of jewelry seized from former first lady Imelda Marcos and forfeited recently by the Sandiganbayan in favor of the government were gifts from heads of state and some acquaintances and not ill-gotten, according to her daughter Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos.

In a radio interview, Imee said that while their lawyers were ready to prove that the pieces of jewelry – known as the Malacañang Collection – were legitimately acquired, they would respect whatever decision is issued by the courts on the matter.
“We will abide by the law,” Imee said.
She said the jewelry collection, declared to be worth at least P4.9 million, should be put to proper use in case the forfeiture is upheld.
