Big waves from heavy rain destroyed at least 70 houses in Manila's Tondo district before dawn Monday, forcing the evacuation of at least 100 families in the area.

The waves crashed on the houses at Happy Land in Manila's Tondo district, according to a radio report by dzBB's Roland Bola

No one was initially reported hurt in the incident, even as the families were evacuated to a nearby chapel and covered court.

Some residents who refused to leave their homes were forced to leave their homes, the report said.

Meanwhile, some streets remained flooded in Manila as of 5 a.m., including along España, Taft Avenue and T.M. Kalaw, although they were passable to vehicles.

Garbage and debris was strewn over parts of Roxas Boulevard, including the United States Embassy.

Forced evacuation in Rizal

In Rizal, meanwhile, Office of Civil Defense Region 4 head Vicente Tomazar said two families were forcibly evacuated from a village in Angono town.

He said two families or eight people were brought to the Brgy. Kalayaan covered court at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
