Poe, the daughter of late movie star and ex-presidential aspirant Fernando Poe, Jr. bagged 391,906 out of the 719,914 votes canvassed so far. The political neophyte has earlier surprised Filipinos by topping partial and unofficial results released by the poll body's citizen arm and media groups late Monday. She still topped the race based on PPCRV's tally as of 2:41 p.m. Tuesday, with 14,613,651 votes.
Pre-election surveys have earlier placed Poe in the winning circle of the senatorial contest, but have not named her as the top contender. Her best performance only brought her to the fourth spot in survey results at the height of the campaign period.
The Comelec en banc, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers on Monday, released its first tally of certificates of canvass from six areas at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The COCs are from Guimaras, Paranaque, Mandaluyong, Romblon, Iligan City and Dinagata Islands. Proceedings have been suspended late Monday after polling closed, pending the transmission of election returns from boards of canvassers in provinces and highly urbanized cities.
