MANILA - A total of 223,991 families or more than a million Filipinos have been affected by heavy rains and floods due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm "Maring."
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRMMC) said the heavy rains caused floods in 80 municipalities and 35 cities in Regions 1, 3, 4a, 4b, Cordillera Administrative Region and Metro Manila.

A total of 513 areas in 78 municipalities and cities in Regions 1, 3, 4a, 4b and Metro Manila are submerged in floods.

Officials said the death toll in the Maring-enhanced monsoon rains remains at 8, with 4 people still missing and 41 reported injured.
Eighty-eight roads in Regions 3, 4a, 4b, CAR and National Capital Region are still impassable to different types of vehicles due to flooding. One bridge was rendered impassable in the Mountain Province while 18 power interruptions were reported in Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.

Disaster officials said cost of damage to infrastructure in Region 4b is over P56 million while cost of damage to agriculture in Regions, 1, 4a and CAR is over P66 million.

State weather bureau PAGASA said tropical storm "Maring" has left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Wednesday morning but will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat).
