Alleged pork-barrel scam operator Janet Lim-Napoles was transferred to the Makati City Jail from the Philippine National Police’s headquarters at Camp Crame on Thursday evening.
Napoles, wearing a flak or bullet-proof vest and surrounded by battle-dressed police officers, was immediately rushed through the jail's gates upon alighting from the PNP bus that took her to Makati.
Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II had earlier said the Napoles would not be housed with the jail's general population. She would be placed in a special room, the location of which he would not disclose.
Napoles had surrendered to President Benigno S.C. Aquino III on Wednesday night ending a two-weak search of the fugitive, who was ordered arrested by a Makati Court over a serious detention case involving whistleblower Benhur Luy.
After the embattled businesswoman’s surrender at Malacañang, she was moved to Camp Crame.
Napoles was implicated in the P10 billion pork barrel scam that ran for about a decade. Lawmakers’ Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), infamously known as the pork barrel, was allegedly funneled to JLN Corp. owned by Napoles, which distributed the money to bogus nongovernment organizations.
