Samsung has started investigating an incident where a Galaxy S3 device allegedly exploded inside an owner's car in Ireland.

The incident came weeks after another model allegedly exploded in a Korean schoolboy’s pocket, according to a report on tech site T3.

"I was driving along today with my Galaxy S3 in my car mount when suddenly a white flame, sparks and a bang came out of the phone. I pulled in to look at my phone, the phone burned from the inside out. Burned through the plastic and melted my case to my phone. The phone kept working but without any signal," T3 quoted the owner as saying.

According to the T3 report, the owner brought the gadget to the car-phone warehouse and was told it could not be replaced it.

"The phone was destroyed and it slightly burned a piece of plastic on the inside of my car. And they are refusing to give me a replacement they had to send it off. Probably nothing I can do, but I'm really annoyed," the owner said.

Samsung was quoted in the T3 report as responding to the affected user: "Samsung is aware of this issue (and once) the investigation is complete, we will be able to provide further details."

T3 noted the news comes as the electronics giant gears up to launch its flagship handset in its native Korea on Monday.

It added it was not the first controversy involving a Samsung Galaxy S3 handset.

A schoolboy in Korea was earlier reported to claim his handset’s battery exploded while in his back pocket.

In that incident, Samsung claimed the external pressure pre-empted on the device was what caused it to explode.

On the other hand, T3 reported other users have reported overheating problems in Internet forums.

But a separate article on SciTech Today said the unlucky user, known only as dillo2K10, later wrote that "Samsung contacted me."

"(T)he head of customer services came out to see me and gave me a replacement phone. Even said he would send me out some free stuff," it quoted dillo2k10 as saying.

Also, it quoted dillo2k10 as adding there is no confirmation that it was a fault with the phone.

"It may actually have been caused by a combination of my car mount and my car's heating system," it quoted dillo2k10 as saying.
