Phivolcs: Magnitude-5 quake hits Surigao Norte

A magnitude-5.0 quake jolted Surigao del Norte Saturday night, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was tectonic in origin and was recorded at 9:38 p.m.

It said the epicenter was about 9 km southwest of Del Carmen town in Surigao Del Norte.
Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity II in Surigao City.

No damage or aftershock was expected from the quake, Phivolcs said.

Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured the quake at magnitude 4.9.

It said the epicenter was at:

- 3 km west-southwest of Dapa, Surigao del Norte
- 47 km east-northeast of Placer, Surigao del Norte
- 58 km east of Surigao
- 76 km north-northwest of Tandag City, Surigao del Sur
