MANILA, Philippines – Professional basketball player James Yap became a top trending topic on Twitter as his latest spat with ex-wife Kris Aquino became the talk of the town, especially in social media.

On Thursday, several friends and fans of Yap turned to the microblogging site to express their support for the PBA superstar.

The hashtag #James Yap ranked fourth among the top trending topics on Thursday morning, with most of the tweets declaring that they believe Yap when he emotionally denied Aquino's accusations at a press conference on Wednesday.

In Aquino’s pleading, she accused Yap of making “overt sexual advances” which she resisted. Aquino said her former husband acted “as if he was still entitled to his matrimonial rights” in full view of their son James "Bimby" Yap Jr.

"If a man cries, that means he's sincere and he's really hurting. It is heartbreaking seeing #JamesYap cry. I think he's telling the truth," Twitter user @gprobles posted.

"Kaya umikyak si James Yap. Ibig sabihin Mabuti syang ama na nagmamahal s anak. D lang nya kayang tiisin ang anak nya," @Jhundee said.

"James Yap is an athlete. He is not an actor, and is not used to act on TV. So when you see him cry like that, it says a lot," netizen @aldrinLLAMADO tweeted.

For @the_green_mind, he said: "Not being sexist but James Yap may be the victim here. Waiting 3 months to file a protection order makes no sense if one feels threatened."

"I believe Kris Aquino's allegations are all not true. I feel sorry for James Yap. I just hope the Law will serve both sides truthfully," @pheliphelps tweeted.

On Wednesday, Yap, accompanied by his lawyer, defended himself against Aquino's accusations and shared in detail what really transpired last December 3 when he supposedly “abused” Aquino.

Yap stressed he had no intentions of hurting Aquino.

In 2005, Yap married Aquino in a civil ceremony. Last year, Aquino said her marriage with Yap has been annulled by the court.
