MANILA -- Actor-host Vhong Navarro will have to undergo surgery due to injuries he sustained after being tied up and attacked by a group of men early this week, according to his doctor.
In a statement given to ABS-CBN News on Saturday, Navarro's doctor said the "It's Showtime" co-host "had contusion hematoma around his eyes, forehead, chin and some parts of his extremities."
"He has broken bones in his nose which will require surgery," the doctor added. "We will continue his medications as of the moment and monitor for recovery."
Navarro's manager, film director Chito Rono, earlier said the actor was beaten up by a group of men last Wednesday inside condominium unit in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.
He said Navarro was invited by a female friend to the condominium unit, where the actor was allegedly tied up, blindfolded, threatened, and attacked by the group, who also allegedly extorted money from him.
Rono has refused to divulge further details.
Meanwhile, Taguig City Police chief Sr. Supt. Arthur Asis said it has launched an investigation into the incident. The group, Asis added, is checking whether there are any CCTV footage showing the incident, or any of those involved. With a report from Jeck Batallones, ABS-CBN News
