MANILA – Aiza Seguerra said it took her more than two months to plan her proposal to her girlfriend of more than a year, former beauty queen Liza Diño.
Seguerra asked for Diño’s hand in marriage last Friday at the Teatro Hermogenes Ylagan at the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Diño was made to believe they were acting for a fund-raising performance of a play titled "Kung Paano Maghiwalay," which was attended by the couple's parents.
In an interview with “Buzz ng Bayan” that aired on Sunday, Seguerra said she specifically sought the help of the playwright, who happens to be her friend, to incorporate her planned proposal into the play.

Former beauty queen Liza Diño and Singer Aiza Seguerra.

“Matagal ko naman na iniisip. Pero all the planning started last November. Dapat muna gagawa kami ng musical na play but we didn’t have time. Tapos I asked 'yung isang friend naming na playwright if he can lend us his script, 'yung ‘Paano Maghiwalay.’ I told him about the proposal.

He got so excited and he said, ‘Sige babaguhin ko yung dulong part para maipasok natin 'yung proposal,” she narrated.
The singer-actress said Diño had no idea about what would happen. “Before ko ibigay 'yung ring, may part dun na binago ko na, hindi ko na sinundan 'yung script,” she narrated.

“Sabi ko, ‘Dati na tayong nagkahiwalay. Siguro kung meron mang magandang naidulot sa atin, mas lalo natin na-appreciate yung isa’t isa. Mas lalo natin nalaban na we can’t be without each other. After 13 years of not being together and now you’re back, sabi ko I’m not going to let go.’ Akala niya nag-a-acting lang ako para sa play,” she continued.
Seguerra wenjt down on one knee on stage, holding an engagement ring to a tearful Diño, who said "yes" in front of a cheering crowd.

The couple said they have yet to set a date for their special day.
“I’m a permanent resident na in LA. In California it’s legal. We want din naman to have the privileges that normal heterosexual couples get. We would love to have it really legalized.

Wala pa kami dun sa mismong specific details. We don’t even have a date yet,” she said.
Seguerra and Diño first met 13 years ago through a common friend. But they had to part ways when Diño had to work in the United States while Seguerra continued her showbiz career here in the Philippines.

The two reconnected when Diño returned to the country.
“This is the first time in my life that I felt that everything is in place for me. I belong to her. We belong to each other. I’m happy that we are finally going towards that direction,” Diño said.
