MANILA – It was Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista who gave up on his blossoming romance with television host Kris Aquino, according to veteran entertainment editor Ricky Lo.
In his column for the Philippine Star on Tuesday, Lo wrote that Bautista was “forced into it no doubt by the unpleasant write-ups against him.”
Immediately after Aquino admitted on national TV last April 7 that she has been dating the actor-turned-politician, several articles surfaced tagging their relationship as “politically motivated.”
Bautista is currently on his last term as the Quezon City Mayor while Aquino has already declared that she might also venture into politics although she has no concrete plans yet.
On Monday, Aquino debuted her new, short hairstyle during the live telecast of her primetime talk show "Aquino & Abunda Tonight," hinting that the change was over a heartache.
When her co-host Boy Abunda noted that her short hair is appropriate, considering the summer season, Aquino quipped, "Pag may pinagdadaanan ka, it's appropriate."
Asked by Abunda if she is going through something, Aquino answered, "Tapos na. [It's] time for a change."
Without mentioning anything specific, Abunda pressed Aquino to confirm whether it meant
something is over, to which she replied: "Ayaw ko na ng heartache, 'yun lang."
According to Lo, "the situation is simply much too complicated."
It was also Lo who previously reported that Bautista has not officially ended his 20-year relationship with girlfriend Tates Gana, citing an unnamed source.
The source told Lo that Bautista's two kids with Gana are affected by reports that their father is now dating Aquino, which they only learned about from news reports.
On his Tuesday column, Lo did not mention Gana but said Aquino and Bautista could not "freely" move around.
"Besides, with the eyes of the media (nay, the world!) fixed on them, Kris and Herbert couldn’t simply move freely around, so you can imagine how paranoid they could be.
They contented themselves with having quiet dinners at Kris’ place, never in a fancy restaurant," Lo wrote.
While Aquino said that she wants a chance at forever with Bautista, it seems that their romance was just a “stopover” in the TV host’s journey in finding her Mr. Right, Lo added.
