Senador agad? Vice Ganda twits Nancy Binay

Vice Ganda is not impressed with the track record, or the lack of it, of senatorial candidate Nancy Binay.

During a press conference held Monday for his upcoming solo concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on May 17, the "It's Showtime" host mentioned the name of Vice-President Jejomar Binay's daughter when asked if he has any plans to pursue a career in public service.

"Gusto ko president ako agad," Vice Ganda said in jest, "'Yung wala kang background, pero mataas agad, parang 'yung mga pulitiko lang ngayon. Walang background, pero senador agad."

Asked if he is referring to any senatorial bets in particular, the 37-year-old comedian said, triggering laughter, "Sige na, si Binay, sino pa ba?"

He added: "Wala akong sinabing masama ah, sinabi ko lang siya as an example, kasi totoo naman, 'di ba? Wala siyang political background, pero senador agad. It's a fact, 'di ba?"

When asked for a "serious" answer to whether he sees himself entering politics, Vice Ganda said, "Baka, siguro pag matalinong-matalino na ako, [pag] marami akong alam tungkol sa pulitika."

"Ayoko naman 'yung... ang dami kayang walang alam, tapos kumakandidato, pasok sa top 6 sa survey," he said, drawing laughter from reporters at the press conference.

Shortly after the event, Vice Ganda clarified that his statement was not a swipe at Binay, but a mere mention of a fact.

"Wala naman akong sinabing masama. I am only responsible for what I say. I am not responsible for what people understand," he said.

Maria Lourdes Nancy Binay is the eldest daughter of Vice-President Binay and former Makati City Mayor Dr. Elenita Binay.

Prior to her Senate bid, the 39-year-old worked as her father's personal assistant and as deputy secretary general of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

Binay has said the idea of her running for senator was the party's decision and not hers.
The consideration to include her in the slate was due to her strong performance in the surveys.

6 Senate bets

With only less than a week before the May 13 polls, Vice Ganda said he so far has a list of 6 senatorial bets he wants to vote for.

He cited an ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs special program, the two-part "Harapan 2013" forum and debate, as particularly helpful in coming up with his list.

Vice Ganda said he will post a series of "tweets" on micro-blogging site Twitter to share his picks for senator as the polls near.

The comedian said his preferred candidates have yet to approach him on the prospect of formally endorsing them.

Ironically, he added, those who he does not intend to vote for have offered him an endorsement deal.
"Maraming [lumapit para magpa-endorso], pero hindi ako pumayag kasi hindi ko rin naman sila iboboto eh," he said, drawing laughter.

"Kasi kahit last time, nung presidential, 'yung kumukuha sa akin, hindi ko rin naman iboboto. Sabi ko, 'Ano 'to, gaguhan? Hindi naman kita iboboto," he said.
