MANILA, Philippines - KC Concepcion admits getting worried about her career when her mother, the Megastar Sharon Cuneta, left ABS-CBN for TV5 in 2011.

Yun yung pinaka-height ng takot ko,” the Kapamilya actress reveal

The Kapamilya actress added: “When my mom moved to a different network, yun yung pinaka-height ng takot. Kasi, sabi ko, binibigyan ba nila ako ng project dahil sa mga kakilala ko, dahil sa mommy ko?”

Sharon’s move to TV5 also coincided with KC's breakup with Kapamilya actor Piolo Pascual.

It didn’t help that KC was considerably new in the entertainment business and the network at the time.

Mas maraming time yung mga artista na mag-build ng relationship, makilala yung mga taong nakapaligid dito sa network,” she said. “So, parang akala ko wala akong kakampi, akala ko nung mga time na yuniki-kick out na nila ako dito.”

KC shouldn’t have worried. Since Sharon’s transfer to a different network, the 28-year-old actress and TV host has done a number of major projects — including hosting “The X Factor Philippines” last year and starring alongside Judy Ann Santos in “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala.”

“I’m glad kahit paano they’re continuing to keep me busy,” she said

‘Launching pad’

KC is saddened by the early exit of “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala” (it will air its final episode on Friday, August 23. But the actress is grateful for the experience of working with Judy Ann.

“I never thought I would last so long considering na estudyante lang ako. I just wanted to do hosting, I just wanted to do my commercials. And now, as an actress, I feel so thankful and I’m learning from the best,” she said.

While KC has done a number of hosting jobs and a handful of movies, “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala” is only the second time she’s part of the regular cast of a soap opera.

She admits hesitating to accept the role as the show’s antagonist, Alexis. But now, KC considers her work here as a turning point in her career.

“This is a launching pad for me. Ito yung new beginnings na hinihintay ko talaga,” she said.

KC added, “It’s a nice reminder na pwede palang unpredictable yung mga roles na gagampanan ng isang artista. And that someone like me, na walang kaalam-alam sa pagarte sa TV and movies, in a span of five years, can grown as an actress.”

No plans

Has she ever considered how her career has progressed away from the image and influence of her mother Sharon? After all, Sharon never tackled a kontrabida role before.

“If it’s not broken, why fix it?” KC said of her mother’s showbiz image.

She added, “She is the Megastar because of what she has done and how she has done it.”

KC shared Sharon seems to be happy with her upcoming soap opera in the rival network.

Ako naman nasa ABS-CBN, so magkaibang network na kami ngayon. And it’s different. Iba yung styleng ibang network and iba yung style ng ABS-CBN. Hopefully, may mga plans din sila for me after nito. We’ll see what happens,” she explained.

KC admits though that she stopped planning her career.

“I’ve really stopped planning,” she revealed. “Sinabi ko na lang, kung ano ang ibibigay ni Lord, yun ang tatanggapin ko.”
