La Mesa Dam on red alert
MANILA - (UPDATE 4) The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) extended on Monday its red rainfall warning over Metro Manila and other areas.
In its advisory issued at 12:10 a.m., PAGASA said heavy to intense rains will affect Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and northern Quezon province within the next three hours.
A red warning means 30 to 60 millimeters of rainfall in the next 3 hours.
PAGASA warned citizens in these areas to expect severe flooding and urged all to take precautionary measures.
PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains are expected over Nueva Ecija and the rest of Quezon province.
The heavy rainfall is due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm Maring, PAGASA said.
La Mesa Dam alert
Meantime, La Mesa Dam was placed on red alert as of 2 a.m. Monday, and residents along Tullahan River were urged to evacuate.
Marikina River, on the other hand, was placed on Alert Level 2 with its water level at 16.1 meters as of 1:30 a.m. Monday. This means people in low-lying and critical areas such as Libis (Malanday), Balubad (Nangka), Tumana should prepare to evacuate.
If the water level reaches 17 meters or Alert Level 3, people in these areas should evacuate.
