State weather forecasters on Sunday night issued a red rainfall warning over Metro Manila, warning of possible severe flooding in the National Capital Region and nearby provinces.
PAGASA said the red rainfall warning, the highest in its three-stage rainfall warning system, is due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Maring.
It said heavy to intense rain is affecting Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas, and may continue until midnight.
"Severe flooding is expected. All are advised to take precautionary measures," it said.
Dams open gates
As of 9 p.m., PAGASA said Magat Dam had one gate open at two meters, with the dam's water level was at 191.30 meters.
It also said Ipo Dam had one gate open at 0.5 meter, as its water level was at 100.41 meters as of 8 p.m.
3 Marikina families evacuated
At least three families in Marikina City were also evacuated from their homes as heavy rain that caused the Marikina River's water levels to rise Sunday night.
In a post on its Twitter account, the city government said the river's water level was already at 15.5 meters as of 9 p.m.
The Marikina City public information office said the three families, consisting of 11 people, were brought to the H. Bautista Elementary School.
