MANILA, Philippines – Controversial boxer Floyd Mayweather
Jr. maintained that he will never deal with his former promoter Bob
Arum, thereby dismissing any chances of fighting Manny Pacquiao in the
near future.
Mayweather used to fight under Arum’s Top Rank promotions, but a managerial dispute separated the two in 2006, prompting the boxer to set up his own outfit and work with Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
"We all know the Pacquiao fight, at this particular time, will never happen, and the reason why the fight won't happen is because I will never do business with Bob Arum again in life,” the boxer said in an interview with Fight Hype.
Mayweather also claimed he is his own man, unlike Pacquiao who leaves most of his decision making to Arum and Top Rank.
The American boxer also blasted Pacquiao’s failure to match his pay-per-view record, claiming that they were never equal in terms of drawing power.
“I want to see Manny Pacquiao's real pay-per-view numbers,” said Mayweather.
“Get his pay-per-view numbers from his last fight and compare them to my pay-per-view numbers with Canelo Alvarez. Did he do 1.2 million homes? Has he done 1 million homes?” he boasted.
Pacquiao earlier said he will try to reach out to Mayweather’s camp in an effort to make the fight.
The Filipino superstar plans to meet the American sometime late December while taking his family to a vacation in the US.
Pacquiao, however, seemed put off by Mayweather’s recent pronouncements.
“Hindi naman tayo umaatras… wala namang problema, kasi kaming mga boksingero, ang trabaho namin ay lumaban (We never back out from a fight… there’s no problem, because we boxers make a living as fighters),” said the Filipino.
"Bakit natin pipilitin siya? Kung papayag siya, walang problema. Kung hindi, ang dami namang mga boksingero diyan (Why should we force him into a fight? If he wants to fight, then good. If not, there are a lot of other fighters out there)."
