Kathryn in no rush to portray mature roles

Teen actress Kathryn Bernardo is in no rush to portray more mature roles in her future film and television projects.

“Siyempre gusto ko rin [ng mature roles] pero ayaw kong madaliin. Kung ano ‘yung sa age ko lang muna sana,” she said.

Bernardo said she’d rather wait for the right time when she is already capable of playing non-teenybopper roles.

“Kung sa future, kung may mas seryoso na talaga, oo naman. Kasi gusto ko ring mag-grow as an actor, kung mabibigyan ako ng magandang project or opportunity,” she said.

Meanwhile, Bernardo said she is currently focused on her upcoming television series with Daniel Padilla “Got To Believe.”

“Ayaw ko ng i-compare sa ibang show na nagawa ko basta sa amin lang, very excited kami sa bagong project na ito. Kasi parang [romantic-comedy] talaga siya at si direk Cathy (Garcia-Molina) rom-com talaga 'yung specialty niya,” she said.

But like her previous series “Princess and I,” Bernardo said her upcoming series also has a very light theme.

“Ano talaga siya very fun. Hinahanap siguro ng mga tao sa primetime ‘yung light lang, ‘yung fresh lang, ‘yung young. Siguro ‘yun ang mapapanood nila sa soap na ‘to,” she said.

Asked why she thinks her team-up with Padilla is always a hit, Bernardo said: “Pareho kami [ni Daniel] ng gustong mangyari, nagtutulungan po kami... ‘Yung team work nandon tsaka hindi kayo nagsasapawan, tsaka suportahan kayo at ‘yun tulungan kayo sa eksena sa lahat ng soap.”

'Must Be Love' earns P50M in one week

MANILA Philippines -- The launching movie of teen stars Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo "Must Be...Love" has earned P50 million in one week, clinching the No. 1 spot for the period.

The Star Cinema release opened in theaters on March 13.

In his official Twitter account, Mico del Rosario, advertising and promotions manager of Star Cinema, shared the good news to "KatNiel" fans.

"Over P50M in seven days! congrats sa team #MustBeLove !! winning numbers for a kathniel launching movie! go for gold! go for more! #2ndweek!" del Rosario tweeted.

The romantic movie tells the story of Patchot (Bernardo), who falls in love with her childhood friend Ivan, played by Padilla. The problem started when Ivan falls for Patchot's cousin Angel (Liza Soberano).

Directed by Dado Lumibao, "Must Be...Love" is now on its second week.

Kathryn: Daniel is free to date other girls

MANILA, Philippines – Although they have admitted to having a "mutual understanding," Kathryn Bernardo said she cannot "prohibit" onscreen partner Daniel Padilla from romantically pursuing other ladies.

"Hindi ko naman siya pinagbabawalan na manligaw sa iba kasi wala pa naman akong right eh," Bernardo was quoted as saying by entertainment news site Push.com.ph. "So choice naman niya kung ano ‘yung gusto niya."

Over the years they were first paired onscreen in the teen-oriented series "Growing Up," Padilla has openly expressed admiration for Bernardo.

Only three years as a "love team," their team-up already spans a top-rating series ("Princess and I") and three movies -- "24/7 In Love," "Sisterakas," and "Must Be Love," which is currently in cinemas nationwide.

However, Bernardo said she is aware of the possibility that they might be paired up with other personalities in their future projects. Even then, the 16-year-old actress said she is confident that they will keep in touch.

“Siguro malulungkot ako siyempre kung ma-partner siya sa iba kasi super bait ni DJ talaga sa akin and kung dumating man sa point na ‘yun, siguro hindi naman mawawala sa amin ‘yung communication, magkikita pa rin kami. Basta trabaho lang siguro,” she said.

Asked on their supposed show of affection for each other even off-camera, Bernardo said, laughing, "'Yung kilig vibes na nakikita ninyo hindi namin makita. Siguro kasi sobrang comfortable na ako with DJ eh so nakikita nila sa set na nagsusuntukan kami ganyan, ganyan."

"Siguro natutuwa lang sila sa amin. So 'yun lang, nagpapakatotoo lang naman din kami sa set eh,” she said.

Directed by Dadao Lumibao, "Must Be Love" is the first film topbilled by Padilla and Bernardo.
Also starring John Estrada, John Lapus and Liza Soberano, the Star Cinema offering is still showing in over 130 theaters nationwide.

Kathryn Bernardo recalls road to success

MANILA – It was not an easy road to success for Kathryn Bernardo. But for what it’s worth, the teen actress is grateful that after the long wait, she is now in a place where she only once dreamed about.

In a live interview with “The Buzz” on Sunday, Bernardo said she will forever be thankful to ABS-CBN because all her projects were given to her at the right time.

“Kasi 'yung awkward stage ‘yung nakakatakot. Thankful ako kasi nung nabigyan ako ng ‘Magkaribal,’ parang nakatawid ako from the bata na pwede na mag-mature kahit papano. Hindi ko talaga inisip na magiging ganito,” she said.

Bernardo said it has always been her dream to be an actress.

“Gusto ko lang mag-artista tapos hindi ko naman in-expect na ganito talaga ang break na mabibigay sa akin. Akala ko dati kapag nag-try ako, tapos hindi ako naging successful, magiging normal school girl na lang ako. Tapos dumating lahat ng blessings na ito nagpapasalamat talaga ako,” she said.

Just like everyone else, Bernardo said she also endured long lines of auditions in the past.

“Siguro 'yung pinagdaanan ko na hindi ko makakalimutan 'yung hirap pumila sa auditions. Pumipila ako sa audience entrance before. ‘Yung mag-aaudition ka, maghapon ka nakapila doon. May dala ka pang mga pictures mo, ipe-present mo sa kanila. Feeling ko kapag nakikita ko sila sa audience entrance, sabi ko grabe din pala 'yung mga ginawa ko before,” she said.

Bernardo advised those who are also aspiring to become an actress to not give up -- just like her.
“Para sa akin talaga, sana rin 'yung iba ma-inspire sila na walang imposible basta gusto mo. Ngayon sobrang saya ko,” she said.

Kathryn open to doing contravida roles

MANILA, Philippines -- Young actress Kathryn Bernardo, who is known for her wholesome roles in "Mara Clara" and "Princess and I," is also open to villain roles.

"Para for a change naman hindi ba?," Bernardo said in her interview on "Bandila" on Wednesday.
But the actress admitted that she is not about to take on contravida roles just yet.

"Siguro sa ngayon, for the meantime, ay doon muna (sa mababait na role). Huwag muna. Parang hindi ko pa kaya. Tina-try ko minsan, parang hindi ako bagay na mag-kontrabida," Bernardo said.

Bernardo is busy promoting her film "Must Be... Love" with her leading man Daniel Padilla, which opens in theaters on March 13.

Enrique Gil refuses to be affected by bashers

MANILA, Philippines – Young actor Enrique Gil refuses to be affected by the comments of some netizens who are rooting for actor Daniel Padilla to be the partner of actress Kathryn Bernardo in the ABS-CBN series “Princess and I.”

In the latest goings on in the top-rating television series, Prince Jao (Gil) is now engaged to Mikay, played by Bernardo.

In an interview with Push.com.ph, Gil said the viewers should not attack anybody since what they see on TV is only a story.

“Hindi naman [ako nakaka-receive ng hate mails] sa e-mail. Sa Twitter siguro mayroong iba pero hindi naman ako mahilig mag-Twitter masyado. Buti na lang wala naman akong nababasa na bashers so that I won’t feel bad. Siyempre story lang ‘to, teleserye lang ‘to, relax lang po,” he explained.

Gil, however, said he is glad that all of them in the show are given a chance to be in the spotlight.

“Masaya siyempre. Basta sa story na ito fair naman sa characters. May moment sila ni Gino (Padilla) may moment din si Mikay at Jao so bounce-bounce lang ‘yan eh. Basta follow the story to see kung sino ang magkakatuluyan in the end,” he said.

Gil also said they are lucky to have a “very particular” director, who brings out the best in them in every scene.

“We’re trying to work on it lalo na si direk Rory Quintos [mabusisi] sa mga eksena namin kasi pataas ng pataas ang emotions namin ngayon eh. Medyo haywire yung emotions nina Mikay, Jao, at Gino. Kaya level up din ang acting,” he said.

Meanwhile, the actor said he feels honored that aside from “Princess and I,” he is also doing a movie which will be part of this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival with the movie "The Strangers."

“Kapatid ko si Julia Montes. Family kasi kami tapos may journey kami, papunta sa probinsya. Tapos may unexpected turn of events na nangyari sa trip na ‘yon. That’s where the story starts—combination siya ng suspense, action, at horror,” he said.

Daniel on Kathryn: We think about each other

MANILA, Philippines – Ever since he was first paired onscreen with Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla has grown to regard the young actress with utmost importance.

According to the Kapamilya heartthrob, the same may also be the case for his "Princess and I" leading lady.

Quizzed on the status of his relationship with Bernardo, with whom he was first paired in 2011 via the teen series "Growing Up". Padilla said they remain close friends.

He added that he cannot speak for the future of his relationship with Bernardo. He said he leaves it to the young actress to steer their friendship in a direction she deems fit.

"Siguro ho ngayon, sobrang close kaming magkaibigan. Nagkakaintindihan po kami," he said.

"Hindi ko po alam, dahil syempre na sa babae po ang sagot. Syempre, lalaki po tayo -- ano po bang karapatan natin para sabihin? Tayo lang ang mag-aabang, sila na po bahala magmaneho," Padilla added.

Kathryn, Daniel to join 'Sisteraka'

MANILA, Philippines -- Actress-host Kris Aquino revealed that the popular love team of teen stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla will also be part of her upcoming movie "Sisteraka" with Vice Ganda and Ai Ai delas Alas.

In her morning show "KrisTV," Aquino said that she will start shooting the film on Tuesday.

"First shooting day ko with Vice Ganda together with my Ai Ai delas Alas for our Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) movie directed by Wenn Deramas. Kasama din namin doon si Kathryn and Daniel at kasama din namin si Xyriel Manabat," said Aquino.

Last September, Aquino said she had backed out from doing the movie due to health reasons.
However, Vice Ganda convinced her to stay on with the MMFF entry.

"Sisteraka" is a joint production of Star Cinema and Viva Films.
