MANILA, Philippines – Star Cinema’ s “The Mistress” is now officially a blockbuster hit after the movie grossed P140 million in just a week.

This was confirmed to by the movie’s director Olivia M. Lamasan on Wednesday afternoon at a thanksgiving press conference of the movie.

"P140 million in one week. Siyempre masayang masaya, overjoyed.

For the movie's lead star Bea Alonzo, she admitted that she didn't expect that the movie will be a box office hit.

"Hindi. Actually we were talking about it. Masyadong adult,'" Alonzo told reporters.

So nakaka-proud 'yung Filipino audience," she added.

According to the latest data from the website Box Office Mojo, "The Mistress" earned an estimated P106,273,381 on its first five days of release, from Sept. 12-16. It was the week's highest grossing movie, beating the Hollywood hit "Resident Evil: Retribution," which earned P64,030,053.
"The Mistress" is Alonzo and actor John Lloyd Cruz's offering to their fans as they celebrate their 10 years as a love team.

“The Mistress” made its debut on September 12, earning P23 million on its opening day.
Now on its second week, the Cruz-Alonzo movie could possibly overtake last year's hit, "No Other Woman," which earned P200 million in ticket sales for its second week.

“No Other Woman” is the second-highest grossing local movie of all time with total box office receipts of P282.5 million, according to Box Office Mojo. It has raked in P15 million during its opening day.

“The Mistress” is Cruz's eighth film to make more than P100 million in its local release. The actor's biggest hit so far is "You Changed My Life" with Sarah Geronimo, which was released in 2009 and earned P225.2 million.
